The Internet provides excellent connectivity and access to
information, but is crippled when it comes to processing that information and
simplifying complex or tedious tasks. Even simple tasks often become more
complex and confusing when implemented on the Internet. Conventional software
excels at automating and simplifying complex tasks, but lacks the necessary
connectivity. The enterprise is forced into the uncomfortable position of
choosing between access (data) and functionality (software).
nTeras was founded in February of 2000 to create technology that extends
software to the Internet and provides the platform for tomorrow's highly
connected computing environment. The result is the revolutionary technology
called JauntT. |
|
Simply put, Jaunt is technology that allows users to run
software that is not installed on their computers. Instead, the software
runs on a server, but looks and feels as if it is installed locally. What's
more, Jaunt provides a platform for integrating advanced multi-user and
collaborative capabilities into existing Windows-based software, as well
as provide multiple unique user interfaces (such as native Windows, HTML, and
PocketPC) to multiple simultaneous users from a single application instance.
RapidAssistT is the first of many Jaunt-based applications. RapidAssist has
many interesting characteristics because of Jaunt's unique capabilities:
-
RapidAssist is never installed on the end-user's computer. Instead, Jaunt is
installed which allows the user to access RapidAssist running on a server.
-
RapidAssist is a Windows application, and is able to interact directly
with the user as if that user was sitting at the server.
-
Regardless of the number of users, a single multi-threaded instance
of RapidAssist on the server simultaneously services all connected users.
-
RapidAssist presents each user with a different user interface based on
whether the user is seeking help or is a technician.
-
RapidAssist has no need for connectivity or sockets support. This is provided
seamlessly and transparently by the multi-user and remote application
capabilities of Jaunt. In fact, RapidAssist is written as if each user were
physically at the server.

RapidAssist uses the multi-user and collaboration capabilities
of Jaunt to improve the way people communicate when receiving technical
support, training, customer assistance, or remote software demonstrations. With
a simple click on a web link or a desktop icon, and with no previous setup
necessary, RapidAssist instantly creates an online collaborative conference
where the support operator is able to remotely view, highlight, and even
control the end user's computer. This eliminates the awkward process of blindly
diagnosing and resolving problems.
